Elden Ring: Mohgwyn Palace

Mohgwyn Palace is an optional location in Elden Ring that players can reach to defeat enemies, rune farm, and to fight Mogh, Lord of Blood.

Elden Ring allows players to participate in an open-world role-playing adventure, where there are opportunities to explore locations, find items, and complete objectives that form part of the main storyline.

Mohgwyn Palace is one of the locations you can explore earlier on or even later in your game by first getting to the palace, then completing various tasks and obstacles and then, finally, fighting and defeating the boss of this area.

Why do people play Elden Ring?

Elden Ring is a popular, role-playing adventure game that was developed by the same company that created the Dark Souls Trilogy, called FromSoftware. This game contains a detailed open world, known in-game as the Lands Between. In this world, you have to navigate wars and unrest to restore a destroyed artefact and become the new ruler of the lands.

There are many challenges to complete along the way in your storyline, from exploring castles, dungeons, and caves to fighting a range of enemies as you find them. The game is known to have a complicated levelling up system, room for personalisation, and plotting, which keeps players on their toes.

Elden Ring: Mohgwyn Palace

Mohgwyn Palace is only one of the many locations in the Elden Ring Game. This Palace is an optional location that most players who have played the game will recognise as the region covered in red light at the top of the cliffs of the Siofra River. The Siofra River is part of the underground region of Elder Ring and is located beneath Caelid.

Mohgwyn Palace is also the site of the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum. Entering this Mausoleum allows you to fight the boss of this location, Shardbearer Mohg, Lord of Blood, collect the spoils from your victory, and farm for runes. This is what persuades most players to complete this optional side-quest.

In order to fully understand the gameplay dynamics of Mohgwyn Palace, it is important to understand how to get to the Palace in the first place, the various tips and tricks of gameplay once you are inside the Palace, and the final boss enemy that you will encounter at the Palace.

How to get to Mohgwyn Palace

There are two main paths to take to get to Mohgwyn Palace; one is found fairly early in your gameplay, and the other you only discover near the end of your game. These paths are:

Path Explanation
Completing White Knight Varre’s Quest Varre can first be found at Limgrave, at the site of grace. You need to defeat a shardbearer and find him again at Rose Church, where he will give you Festering Bloody Fingers. Then, invade other players three times and agree to join his order, after which he will give you Lord of Blood’s Favour and ask you to soak it in maiden’s blood. When you have completed this, he will give you the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, which transports you to Mohgwyn Palace.
Use the portal in the Consecrated Snowfields For this path, you must have access to the western part of the Mountaintops of the Giants. Then, you need to go west, where Sanguine Noble will invade you. Once you have defeated this enemy, you can continue to the cliff in the western direction, where you will find the portal.

Tips and tricks for gameplay in Mohgwyn Palace

Although Mohgwyn Palace is usually only played later on in your storyline, there are still tips and tricks that can help you make the most out of your game in this side-quest, such as:

  • Get the Map fragment from the single corpse sitting in the section north-west from where the three Albinaurics are, to make navigation easier
  • Expect quick attacks and strong bleed spells
  • This is one of the best locations to farm for runes

Boss fight: Mohg, Lord of Blood

Many players travel to Mohgwyn Palace for the opportunity to fight and defeat Mohg. You can find him at the large ruined temple. This is one of the toughest boss fights and bosses to defeat in Elden Ring, because he has far-reaching physical attacks, mixed magic and physical damage, and many bleed spells even before the (more dangerous) second phase of the fight.

Having Mohg’s Shackle, Dragoncrest Shield Talisman, or Pearldrake Talisman with you can help you defeat Mogh and you could be rewarded with the Remembrance of the Blood Lord and Mohg’s Great Rune.
